Before your first Online Lesson

Some useful tips to help you prepare for your first online lesson :)

you will need:

  • A piano or keyboard for learning and practice.

  • An internet-connected laptop, computer, tablet or smartphone, either with an integrated or separate webcam (camera) and microphone.

  • Ideally, internet speed at least 1.5Mb per second. (You can test your speed using Google’s Speed Test.)

  • Headphones or earbuds, if possible. Headphones or earbuds generally provide the best sound quality for online music tuition and reduce the risk of hearing echoes when you talk, sing or play. However, they may not be ideal for all types of setups. Your teacher will advise you on what’s best.

  • Free Zoom software or app.

During your Lesson

  • VIDEO: Position yourself in front of the camera so that the keys and your hands are clearly visible.

  • AUDIO: try to limit the background noise in the room, ideally do your lessons from a quiet corner of your home so that you can clearly hear each other talk and play.

  • BATTERY: this might seem obvious but please check you have enough battery life on your device to make it through this video lesson!

  • CONNECTION: make sure you have a good signal/ internet connection before you start your lesson.
